Establishing the amount of employment land, to create the jobs and support the growth communities need, is fundamental to the success of the planning and development system.

At all stages of the planning system - reviewing how development will contribute towards the Council's employment land

Viable Placemaking were pleased to support a developer with a specialist Employment Land and Economic Impact Assessment for the development of a site for a mixed use eco-commercial park. The proposal was for a mix of sustainable workspaces, including start-up units and larger industrial buildings, alongside a mix of commercial buildings and a cafe.

Over the lifespan of the development, the eco-commercial park would directly and indirectly deliver over 1000 jobs and contribute over £100m to the local economy.

The Council had underdelivered employment floorspace and, although the local plan was up-to-date, it was concluded that the development would be of substantial benefit to the local employment needs and the economy,

This was a great example of a development which responded to local needs, supported economic growth (including helping new businesses get started) and did so in a sustainable way.
